Super Corsair crash in Phoenix air races

February 7, 2007

I found this video on the Airshow Buzz forums.  This was posted Dec 2006, but I think it was from the air races in 2005 (perhaps earlier) in Phoenix (they didn’t have the races in 06).  When you think about the time, money and effort that goes into these old warbirds, it truy is a shame to see them go down.  On the forums, the pilots all emphasize safety, and their preparation for these contingencies is apparent in the video.  You’ll notice the pilot steers the plane to crash in an area away from the crowds before he bails out.

Edit:  Event took place March 1994 Kevin Eldrige [via].  Someone also posted a link to the pilot’s story, via the same link.

Quote 2

From Marine Corps Chaplain Father Dennis O'Brien: "It is the soldier, not the poet who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the reporter who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who gives the protester the right to burn the flag." found on: www.robreider.com
