Air show tragedy

There was an accident Sunday at an Oregon air show. Robert Guilford was piloting his beautifully restored Hawker Hunter when he had engine failure (?) and went down.  No civilians were injured.  I didn’t know Robert, but it appears that besides the law practice he worked at, he’s been involved in air shows, and even the Reno Air Races in the past.  There are some well wishers on a forum I found during my searches, here.  Also, here is a link to the local news coverage.

I’m just an average fan and I’m not very well connected, but I do wish all those that are impacted by this loss my deepest sympathies.

Oh man that is a bummer. Probably the worst part is that it’ll raise the cry of those who don’t want air shows because “they’re too dangerous”. Never mind that this crash had nothing to do with the air show. Bummer indeed.

  • […] According to this article, Hillsboro will keep the airshow they hold every year.  There was concern that the airshow would be lost after the tragic accident that took place earlier this year.  For airshow fans, this is good news.  Apparently, the community around the little airport thought it was valuable, too.  […]

  • […] Considering the backlash that organizers of the this airshow dealt with after the accident in July, I think this is great news.  The Blue Angels will perform at this years airshow.  […]

I’m delighted that Hillsboro will continue to hold airshows, and particularly delighted that the Blue Angels will fly this year. That will take everyone’s minds off of last year’s show and bring some joy and happiness to Hillsboro. I wish the organizers a most successful and rip-roarin’ show.

"Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first." Mark Twain

Quote 2

From Marine Corps Chaplain Father Dennis O'Brien: "It is the soldier, not the poet who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the reporter who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who gives the protester the right to burn the flag." found on:
