Reno Air Races are complete now

September Fury won the Unlimited Gold Sunday to complete the Reno Air Races (RGJ story here, AAFO post here).  Complete results for all the races can be found here.  There was only one minor injury during the mishap in the pits with  Merlin’s Magic.  The plane doesn’t look too good though and there is talk that a website will be set up for updates and for people to contribute to the restoration of the plane (more photos here, with related post – the engine was from earlier bad luck).  These guys deserve a lot of credit.  There isn’t a lot of sponsorship floating around out there in this obscure sport, and many of these owners/pilots do this out of love for the sport.  So, if you can buy a T-shirt, and send them a message, it goes a long way.

Hopefully, Rare Bear, Dago Red, Voodoo, Super Corsair and Merlin’s Magic get it all worked out for next year.

There was a mishap during the start of the Gold Jet Race too.  Apparently, the pace jet lost its canopy!  They restarted and ran an abbreviated race.  Scroll down in this post for a picture and the story.

Here’s some footage of the media flight the Thunderbirds had with one of the local news personalities.  Photos from Sunday are here.

I’ll post links to pictures and video as it becomes available.  Many are traveling home the early part of this week, so it might be next weekend before some of the teams and fans get their pictures up.  I’m anxious to see all I can though!

From Marine Corps Chaplain Father Dennis O'Brien: "It is the soldier, not the poet who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the reporter who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who gives the protester the right to burn the flag." found on: www.robreider.com
